FG Threatens to Disconnect Power Companies Over Grid Stability Breach

The Federal Government has warned electricity generation companies that they risk disconnection from the national grid if they fail to comply with new rules on power stability.

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), says all generating units must activate the Free Governor Control system, which automatically balances power output to keep the grid stable.

The commission explained that non-compliant companies will face a 10 per cent penalty on their invoices, and any generating unit that defaults for 90 consecutive days will be cut off.

NERC says the order, which takes effect September 1, is aimed at preventing frequent system collapses and ensuring more reliable power supply across the country.
