Ex-PM Han Duck-soo Joins South Korea Presidential Race Amid Crisis

Former South Korean Prime Minister Han Duck-soo has officially declared his candidacy for the June 3 snap presidential election, following the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol over his controversial martial law declaration.

In a televised address, Han vowed to restore stability and take on greater responsibility for the nation’s future.

Han, 75, who briefly served as acting president after Yoon’s ousting, is expected to align with Yoon’s People Power Party to face liberal frontrunner Lee Jae-myung.

His campaign promises include tackling economic challenges and amending the Constitution to reduce presidential powers.

His announcement came amid heightened political turmoil, including a court-ordered retrial for Lee and the resignation of Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok, who was facing impeachment.

Han, a veteran bureaucrat with decades of service, emphasized his experience and pledged to lead South Korea through its current crisis.
