Senate Passes Two Key Tax Reform Bills, Targets Completion of Overhaul by Thursday

The Senate has passed two of four critical tax reform bills, one to repeal the Federal Inland Revenue Service (Establishment) Act and another to establish both the Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Bill 2025 and the Nigeria Revenue Service Bill 2025.

The bills were passed after a clause-by-clause review during the Committee of the Whole and a third reading on the Senate floor.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio hailed the progress, saying the reform would significantly improve governance and revolutionise how taxes are collected and shared nationwide.

Akpabio also promised the chamber’s commitment to finalising the remaining two bills by Thursday, even if it required working into the night.

The four bills, originally submitted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in October 2024, are part of broader efforts to reform Nigeria’s tax system.
