Nigeria’s U-19 boys’ team have booked their spot at the 2025 ITTF World Youth Championships in Romania after clinching gold at the African Youth Championships in Lagos on Tuesday.
The team pulled off a dramatic comeback against Egypt in the semifinals, winning 3-2 after trailing 0-2, and repeated the same scoreline to edge Tunisia in the final.
Despite Tunisia’s Wassim Essid defeating Nigeria’s Matthew Kuti and Abdulbasit Abdulfatai, Abdulfatai sealed victory in the decider by beating Mohamed Khaloufi 3-0.
Meanwhile, Egypt secured the girls’ U-19 title with a dominant 3-0 win over Nigeria, and Uganda made history in the U-15 girls’ category by winning their first-ever team gold after a 3-2 victory over Tunisia.
