At least 28 people, including three children, have been killed following a wave of Russian drone and missile attacks on Kyiv yesterday.
According to Ukraine’s interior ministry, more than 150 others were injured, and a residential apartment block collapsed in the assault.
Ukraine’s air force said Russia launched 309 drones and eight cruise missiles overnight. While many were intercepted, several still found their targets, causing widespread destruction, especially in the Sviatoshynskyi and Solomyansky districts of the capital.
President Volodymyr Zelensky described the strikes as a brutal response to growing international calls for peace, saying, the world has yet again seen Russia’s answer, more demonstrative murder.
The strikes come amid renewed pressure from the United States, with President Donald Trump warning of tougher sanctions if Russian President, Vladimir Putin fails to agree to a ceasefire by August 8.
Despite the threat, Moscow pressed on with its offensive and claimed to have captured the strategic town of Chasiv Yar in eastern Donetsk. Ukraine has denied it, saying fighting in the area is still ongoing.
