FG Reaffirms Commitment to Food Security, Youth and Women Empowerment

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, has disclosed that the federal government remains committed to achieving food security, diversifying the economy, and empowering youth and women through the agricultural value chain.

Speaking during a weekend visit to the 1,300-hectare Jangwa Rice Farm in Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Kyari said President Bola Tinubu’s administration is focused on transforming the agricultural sector to meet Nigeria’s growing food demand.

He said government policies aim to close the food supply gap, build sustainable food systems, and promote inclusive agricultural development, calling for more investment from state governments and the private sector.

The Minister promised to return after harvest to assess the project’s impact, noting that it will boost rice production, reduce imports, and strengthen the rice value chain nationwide.

While speaking, the Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, described the state as one of Nigeria’s leading rice producers and the country’s largest sesame producer. He noted that the farm has created opportunities for youth and women while reducing crime.
