The Lagos State Government has ordered all licensed e-hailing operators to present their vehicles for inspection to enforce safety standards, verify database integrity, and ensure roadworthiness.
Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, issued the directive during a meeting with operators at the ministry’s headquarters in Alausa, Ikeja.
He said the move follows the discovery of poorly maintained vehicles on some platforms and warned that any unfit vehicle will be banned from Lagos roads. Osiyemi also raised concerns over weak database systems, which he said make it difficult to track crimes linked to ride-hailing services.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation in Lagos, Olawale Musa, cautioned against using unregistered vehicles, noting that the practice hampers security tracking. He said all drivers must be certified by the Lagos State Drivers’ Institute and urged operators to update their records on the state’s digital platform or risk losing their licences.
Musa also advised residents to avoid booking rides offline to ensure safety features remain active.
