President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NADFAC) for retaining the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) Maturity Level 3 rating for the regulation of medicines and vaccines.
President Tinubu commended the agency’s management and staff for professionalism and consistency, describing the milestone as a boost to Nigeria’s credibility in global health security and pandemic preparedness.
The President said the government remains committed to ensuring the safety, quality, and efficacy of medicines and vaccines in line with international best practices. He pledged continued support for NAFDAC in its journey towards WHO Maturity Level 4.
He highlighted ongoing health reforms including the upgrade of over 17,000 primary healthcare centres, improved maternal care and diagnostics, training of 120,000 health workers, and plans to double national health insurance coverage within three years.
The confirmation followed a WHO re-benchmarking exercise in May this year, which assessed NAFDAC’s performance against global regulatory standards. According to reports, NAFDAC first achieved Maturity Level 3 in 2022, becoming the first national regulatory authority in Africa to do so for a non-producing country.
