The World Bank has approved $300 million for the Internally Displaced and Host Communities Project (SOLID) in northern Nigeria, aimed at improving access to essential services and economic opportunities for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and their host communities.
The bank said the project, which aligns with Nigeria’s long-term development goals, will adopt an integrated development strategy to help both groups move towards self-sufficiency and resilience.
Ongoing conflict and insecurity have displaced more than 3.5 million people in the region, straining infrastructure, limiting services, and heightening vulnerability to natural disasters.
According to the bank, local governments cannot fully address these challenges, leading to competition for scarce resources and reduced livelihood opportunities.
SOLID will focus on climate-resilient infrastructure, social cohesion, livelihood support, and stronger institutions to respond to demographic shifts.
