US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and several European leaders met at the White House yesterday to discuss ways of ending the Russia-Ukraine war.
Security guarantees for Kyiv topped the agenda, with European leaders urging Washington to adopt a firm stance against Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Before the closed-door meetings, President Trump said discussions would focus on sharing responsibilities for Ukraine’s security and hinted that possible territorial exchanges were being considered.
He added that he planned to call Putin to propose a trilateral meeting with Zelensky, saying there was a reasonable chance of ending the war if such talks held.
Zelensky confirmed that he had earlier held what he described as a very good conversation with U.S. President, during which they discussed security guarantees and humanitarian issues.
He welcomed the prospect of a trilateral dialogue with Putin and thanked President Trump and US First Lady Melania Trump for raising concerns over Ukraine’s abducted children in a letter to Moscow.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian leader stressed that his country needed comprehensive security support, including weapons, training, intelligence, and manpower, to safeguard its sovereignty.
