Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to China later this month to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit opening on August 31 in Tianjin.
His National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval, confirmed the visit during talks in New Delhi with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, describing it as a sign of “new energy” in bilateral relations.
The trip will mark Modi’s first visit to China since 2018.
Wang said Beijing attached great importance to Modi’s participation, stressing that a stable relationship between China and India was in both countries’ long-term interest.
The Chinese diplomat also told Indian officials that the two nations should see each other as partners rather than rivals, even as they remain strategic competitors across South Asia.
Modi is expected to meet Wang later on Tuesday, with discussions focused on repairing strained ties since the 2020 border clash
