Over 40 Missing in Sokoto Boat Tragedy

More than 40 people are missing after a boat capsized in Sokoto State yesterday.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) reported that the vessel was carrying over 50 passengers to Goronyo Market when the accident occurred. About 10 people have been rescued.

NEMA’s Director General, Zubaida Umar, says the agency has deployed its Sokoto operations team to work with local authorities and emergency responders in the search and rescue efforts.

It would be recalled that in August last year, 16 farmers died in a similar accident in Sokoto, while 13 people also lost their lives in another mishap in Niger State just two days earlier.
