NCCE Shuts Down 22 Illegal Colleges of Education

The National Commission for Colleges of Education has uncovered and closed 22 illegal colleges of education operating across the country.

The commission, in a report on its recent achievements, said it carried out personnel audits and financial monitoring in all 21 federal colleges as part of efforts to strengthen regulation and accountability.

President Bola Tinubu had earlier directed regulatory bodies, including National Universities Commission (NUC), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), to take decisive action against what he described as “certificate millers” undermining the sector’s credibility.

Represented by a Ministry of Education official at the 14th convocation of the National Open University of Nigeria, the president stressed that agencies

such as JAMB, NYSC and others must work together to uphold standards, tackle forgery, and eliminate unrecognised institutions.
