NEC Approves Renewed Hope Economic Development Plan 2026–2030

The National Economic Council (NEC) has approved the Nigerian Medium-term National Development Plan for 2026–2030, also known as the Renewed Hope Economic Development Plan.

Briefing after the NEC meeting chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu, said the plan will succeed the current framework ending this year and is designed to push President Tinubu’s $1 trillion growth target.

He explained that the new plan forms part of Nigeria’s 30-year Agenda 2050 and will involve government at all levels, the private sector, and civil society.

The Council also received updates on the fight against polio, with cases dropping from 78 last year to 42 so far in 2025.

Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, who chairs the NEC Polio Committee, said Kano and Katsina have recorded major reductions, but Sokoto remains the highest risk with 13 cases. He stated that a second round of vaccinations is scheduled for September, followed by a nationwide campaign in October.
