FG Promises One-Week Passport Delivery, Reviews Fees

The Federal Government has assured Nigerians that passports will be delivered within one week of enrolment, following major reforms in the issuance process.

The Interior Minister, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who gave the assurance at a performance retreat in Abuja, said the reforms will end delays, racketeering, and corruption in the system. He added that Passport Control Officers will no longer have the power to approve or delay applications, as approvals have been centralised to ensure transparency.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Immigration Service has announced new passport fees effective September 1st.

According to Tunji-Ojo, a 32-page passport with five-year validity will now cost ₦100,000, while the 64-page, ten-year booklet will cost ₦200,000.

He noted that the new charges apply only to applications within Nigeria, while fees for Nigerians in the diaspora remain unchanged.
