The Federal Government has cancelled the military parade earlier scheduled to commemorate Nigerias 65th Independence Anniversary tomorrow, October 1.
This was disclosed in a statement from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, which clarified that the cancellation does not diminish the importance of the milestone.
The government, while expressing regret over any inconvenience caused, stated that other events, including a presidential address, cultural programmes, and the National Campus Debate finale, will proceed as planned.
Citizens and invited guests were urged to continue supporting the administrations Renewed Hope Agenda.
At a press conference in Abuja, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, described Independence Day as a time for reflection, unity, and renewed patriotism, stressing the theme Nigeria at 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation.
He said the countrys transformation relies on collective responsibility and praised the president’s reform agenda despite current hardships.
Minister of Information Mohammed Idris echoed similar sentiments, likening the number 65 to sapphire symbolising truth and resilience and highlighting progress in key sectors.
He called on Nigerians and international partners to rally behind ongoing reforms for a stronger, more united nation.
