National Assembly Cautions Staff Over Planned Protest, Warns of Disciplinary Action

The management of the National Assembly has warned parliamentary workers against embarking on their planned protest and picketing of the complex as lawmakers resume plenary tomorrow.

The caution followed threats by some members of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) to begin industrial action over alleged unresolved welfare and constitutional issues.

In a circular issued yesterday by the Secretary of Human Resources and Staff Development, Essien Eyo Essien, on behalf of the Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, staff were urged to disregard calls for strike or picketing, with management warning that any disruption of legislative activities would attract disciplinary measures.

The notice came after a petition from some Concerned PASAN Members accused management of harassment, financial opacity, and neglect of welfare matters, including salary shortfalls, unpaid allowances, and non-implementation of key reforms.

As tension builds ahead of plenary, observers say the handling of the dispute will determine whether normal legislative proceedings continue without disruption.
