Israel and Hamas are set to begin indirect negotiations in Egypt today to discuss the implementation of U.S. President Donald Trump’s 20-point Gaza peace plan.
According to reports from Gaza, preparatory talks involving Hamas, Qatar, and Egypt started at 10:00am, with Hamas agreeing to some aspects of the plan, including the release of Israeli hostages, though the group has not accepted all the conditions.
The Hamas delegation is being led by Khalil al-Hayya, who reportedly survived an Israeli assassination attempt in Qatar last month.
Despite growing international momentum for a breakthrough, correspondents say there is no assurance a deal will be finalized.
President Trump urged all sides to act swiftly, saying the first phase should be completed within the week, even as Israeli airstrikes on Gaza continued, with civil defence authorities reporting 24 Palestinian deaths in the past 24 hours.
