The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has announced that the proposed implementation of a 15 per cent ad-valorem import duty on Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) and Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) is no longer being considered.
In a statement posted on its official X handle, the Director of Public Affairs, George Ene-Ita, clarified that the decision to suspend the duty followed consultations, assuring the public that fuel supply across the country remains stable and within the national sufficiency threshold.
The agency stated that there is a robust domestic supply of petroleum products sourced from both local refineries and importation to meet current demand.
It warned against panic buying, hoarding, or arbitrary price increases, noting that it will continue to monitor the situation to prevent any disruption in fuel distribution.
NMDPRA also reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring energy security nationwide while appreciating stakeholders’ cooperation in maintaining smooth supply operations.
