The Federal Government has congratulated Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele on the record-breaking success of her movie Behind the Scenes, describing the feat as a major boost for Nigeria’s creative industry.
In a statement on its X handle, the National Orientation Agency said the film’s performance reflected the growing global acceptance of Nigerian stories and noted that it had crossed ₦2.1 billion at the Nigerian box office, making it the first Nollywood production to surpass the ₦2 billion mark. The agency also said the movie recorded notable earnings overseas, including over 111,000 dollars in Canada and nearly 190,000 dollars across North America.
The agency further said the achievement underlined Akindele’s emergence as the first filmmaker to rank number one at the African box office for three consecutive years. According to the statement, the success of Behind the Scenes highlights Nollywood’s expanding reach and reinforces the global appeal of Nigeria’s film industry, describing the milestone as a proud moment for the country’s cultural and creative sectors.
