The Presidency has taken aim at opposition politicians, especially the African Democratic Congress (ADC), following a new global ranking that named Lagos the world’s fastest-growing emerging technology ecosystem.

Reacting on his verified X handle, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said opposition figures who often highlight negative statistics about Nigeria would be displeased by the international recognition, describing the development as a setback to persistent critical narratives about the country.

Onanuga’s comments followed the release of a global list by Global Statistics, which ranked Lagos first among the top 20 fastest-growing emerging tech ecosystems worldwide, ahead of cities such as Istanbul, Pune, Mumbai and Belo Horizonte.

He said the ranking underscored Nigeria’s growing innovation capacity under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, countering criticisms by opposition parties, including the ADC, and highlighting Lagos’ rising influence in the global digital economy.
