INEC Begins 50-Day Voter Registration in Akwa Ibom

The Independent National Electoral Commission has commenced a 50-day Continuous Voter Registration exercise across the 329 wards of Akwa Ibom State.

The ward-level registration, which began on Monday, is aimed at taking voter enrolment closer to the grassroots and encouraging eligible citizens to participate in the electoral process.

INEC’s Head of Department for Voter Education and Publicity in the state, Bukola Ojeme, explained that registration would take place at designated Ward Collation Centres, with two wards in each local government area attended to daily.

He noted that while the commission’s state headquarters would remain operational throughout the period, registration activities at the 31 local government offices had been temporarily suspended as officials and voter enrolment devices were deployed to the wards.

Ojeme added that all wards would be covered through a rotating schedule, warned against the use of unauthorised centres, and urged eligible residents, particularly in rural areas, to take advantage of the exercise.
