China Seeks Stronger Ties With Brazil to Resist Bullying on World Stage

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has revealed that China is ready to work more closely with Brazil to resist unilateralism and bullying from the United States after a phone call with his Brazilian counterpart, Mauro Vieira.

The talks come as Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s government considers retaliatory trade measures against Washington after United States President Donald Trump imposed 50 percent tariffs on Brazilian goods, including coffee.

Wang described China–Brazil ties as the best in history, noting that both countries, alongside Russia, India, China, and South Africa (the BRICS), must protect the rights of developing nations.

Relations between Washington and Brasília have soured further, with Trump linking tariffs to the ongoing trial of former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro. He has also sanctioned a Supreme Court justice overseeing the case and revoked the visa of Brazil’s Justice Minister
