Court Adjourns Over NMA’s Inability to Present Kanu’s Health Report

The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned the trial of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, to October 16, 2025, to allow the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) conclude and present its medical assessment report. The trial judge, Justice James Omotosho, explained that the adjournment became necessary because the NMA had yet to finalize its evaluation of Kanu’s health status as directed by the court.

During today’s proceedings, counsel for the Department of State Services (DSS), Suraj S’aad (SAN), informed the court that the medical board needed additional time to complete its findings. The court had earlier ordered the NMA to conduct an independent examination to determine whether Kanu’s medical needs could be adequately managed at the DSS facility or if he should be transferred to the National Hospital. With no objection from the defence counsel, Justice Omotosho granted the request for adjournment, stating that the case would resume on October 16 for the presentation of the medical report and further proceedings.
