Court to Rule on Wike JUAC Strike Suit Today

The National Industrial Court in Abuja has fixed today for its ruling on a suit filed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the FCT Administration against leaders of the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC), seeking to halt the ongoing strike by FCTA workers.
The claimants asked the court to restrain JUAC officials from embarking on industrial action, arguing that the union lacked legal standing to call a strike and that due processes were not followed, while insisting the government remained open to dialogue and mediation.
Counsel to the workers’ union opposed the application, contending that granting the reliefs would amount to determining the substantive case at an interlocutory stage and warning against ordering workers to resume duties amid unresolved issues, including unpaid entitlements.
The dispute has paralysed activities across major FCTA offices, as labour unions staged a picket at the court premises to protest alleged violations of workers’ rights, wage abuses, and neglect of welfare, with the Nigeria Labour Congress and other unions backing the strike and demanding urgent resolution of outstanding grievances.
