The Nigeria Customs Service has launched the Customs Verification Management System (CVMS), a digital platform that allows Nigerians to verify the clearance and duty payment status of imported vehicles within minutes.
Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, unveiled the system at the Customs Headquarters in Abuja, describing it as a major milestone in the service’s modernisation drive aimed at enhancing transparency, accountability, and efficiency.
Developed in partnership with the Trade Modernisation Project and indigenous tech firm Afripoint Consult, the platform enables users to verify vehicles using their Vehicle Identification Number for a ₦15,000 fee.
Adeniyi said the initiative eliminates manual bottlenecks, curbs fraud, and gives citizens and dealers access to real-time verified data.
The Managing Director of Afripoint Consult, Ajibola Adetula, noted that the system is integrated with Customs’ database dating back to 2017, while motor dealers hailed the project as a long-awaited reform that would reduce harassment and promote trust in vehicle transactions.
