Defence Minister Refutes Claims That Terrorists Outgun Nigerian Military

The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Abubakar, has dismissed claims by the House of Representatives that terrorists possess superior weapons compared to the Nigerian Armed Forces, calling the assertion “absolutely not true.”

Speaking during a briefing in Abuja, Abubakar maintained that the military is better equipped with advanced arms and surveillance technology, including drones.

He explained that terrorist attacks reflect guerrilla warfare tactics, not superior firepower, and stressed that while insurgents rely on informants and surprise strikes, the military continues to record strategic successes.

Addressing concerns over the use of drones by terrorists, the minister clarified that only modified civilian drones have been observed, not military-grade or armed variants.

He added that the government is intensifying intelligence operations and has made arrests linked to arms trafficking in coordination with national and international partners.

On the upcoming national security summits proposed by the Senate and House of Representatives, Abubakar welcomed the initiative but emphasized that practical, well-implemented strategies remain the key to addressing insecurity.
