Ivory Coast’s Constitutional Council has disqualified two prominent opposition figures; former president Laurent Gbagbo and ex-Credit Suisse CEO Tidjane Thiam from contesting the October 25 presidential election.
The council speaking yesterday, said both men were removed from the electoral roll earlier this year, citing nationality issues in Thiam’s case and a past criminal conviction for Ex- president Gbagbo.
As a result of this, the contest now features five candidates, among them former First Lady Simone Ehivet Gbagbo and ex-ministers Jean-Louis Billon, Ahoua Don Mello, and Henriette Lagou.
