The Federal Government has begun the process of appointing five new permanent secretaries, including three to head newly established ministries.
A circular from the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, said the appointments will fill vacancies for Imo State, the Federal Capital Territory, and three newly created rotational zonal positions for the North-Central, North-East, and South-East, based on alphabetical order.
Only directors on Grade Level 17 in the Federal Civil Service who have served at least two years, are verified on the IPPIS portal, and are not due for retirement before December 31, 2026, are eligible.
Candidates must also have no pending disciplinary cases and, for female civil servants, indigeneship cannot be by marriage.
The memo directed serving permanent secretaries to confirm applicants’ disciplinary status and submit supporting documents, including CVs and personnel files, to the Career Management Office in Abuja by August 12, 2025.
Since assuming office, President Bola Tinubu has appointed at least 26 permanent secretaries, including eight each in November 2023 and June 2024.
