The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has assured Nigerians that the era of strikes in tertiary institutions is coming to an end, stressing the Federal Government’s commitment to improved engagement and fulfilment of agreements with academic unions.
He revealed that President Bola Tinubu had issued a clear directive to prevent any further disruptions to higher education.
Alausa emphasized the importance of trust building and consistent dialogue with unions such as ASUU, NASU, SANU, and COEASU.
He noted that previous governments failed to honour signed agreements, but the current administration is engaging actively with the unions.
On the issue of delayed salaries, he explained that institutions are now on the GIFMIS platform, and while delays may occur due to payment scheduling, salaries are still being paid regularly.
