Finland’s President Alexander Stubb is in Kenya for a three-day state visit, marking the first time a Finnish head of state has visited the East African country.
On Monday, the two nations signed agreements focused on political consultations, peace mediation, and conflict resolution.
During a joint news conference, Stubb and Kenyan President William Ruto reaffirmed their commitment to the Kenya-European Union Economic Partnership Agreement, which took effect in July 2024.
President Stubb praised Kenya’s strong international role in promoting peace, citing the country’s stance on global conflicts such as the war in Ukraine and tensions in the Middle East.
He said the newly signed memorandum on peace mediation reflects shared values. Stubb also expressed interest in strengthening economic ties, highlighting the presence of a Finnish business delegation.
President Ruto welcomed the partnership, noting that Finland’s strengths in education, technology, renewable energy, and climate action align well with Kenya’s development goals.
