The Nigerian U-20 national team, the Flying Eagles, have opened their final training camp at the NFF/FIFA Goal Project in Abuja in preparation for the FIFA U-20 World Cup starting September 27 in Chile.
Head coach Aliyu Zubairu said the team’s preparations had reached full gear, noting that the squad consists of both home-based and foreign-based players, though many of those abroad were yet to be released by their clubs.
He explained that the technical crew is working with available players to ensure a formidable squad is assembled.
A key player being assessed in camp is David Stockbrink of Fortuna Sittard in the Netherlands, who missed the African Cup of Nations due to injury.
Zubairu said the midfielder was invited on recommendation and is now under close evaluation.
He added that if all the best players are eventually released to join the team, Nigerians can be confident the Flying Eagles will prove their worth on the world stage.
