G7 Leaders Urge President Trump To Ease Off Trade War

At the Group of Seven summit in Canada, world leaders pressed United States of America, President Donald Trump to abandon his aggressive tariff policies, warning they pose a threat to global economic stability.

Despite efforts by the host nation to avoid confrontation, leaders including France’s Emmanuel Macron and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen held private talks with Trump, urging him to ease the trade war that has already imposed steep levies on cars, steel, and aluminium from key allies.

A German official revealed that several leaders warned the tariffs could weaken the G7 and ultimately benefit China.

President Trump used the summit to sign a trade deal with Britain but left early due to the Iran crisis, missing scheduled talks with non-G7 countries like India, Brazil, and South Africa.

Meanwhile, Japan’s Prime Minister, Shigeru Ishiba confirmed ongoing disagreements with the U.S. over trade terms, and Canada signaled hope for a truce within 30 days following talks between President Trump and Prime Minister Mark Carney.
