Ghana yesterday buried two of the eight victims of last week’s deadly helicopter crash at a solemn ceremony in Accra.
Former Minister for Environment Ibrahim Muhammed Murtala and Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Limuna Mohammed were laid to rest at a military cemetery after tributes from President John Mahama, who said the late officials would have wanted the government to continue its hard work and serve the people diligently to fulfil the nation’s research agenda.
Authorities say all eight victims of the August 6 crash, including Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah, have now been identified through DNA tests conducted in South Africa.
The incident, involving a Z-9 helicopter often used for transport and medical evacuation, is among Ghana’s worst air disasters in over a decade.
A state funeral will be held on August 15 at Black Star Square in Accra, while military investigations into the cause of the crash continue.
