In Kenya, authorities have discovered five more bodies linked to the doomsday cult of self-proclaimed Pastor Paul Mackenzie. The remains were found in shallow graves near Kilifi, bringing the number of victims uncovered in the past week to 24.
Mackenzie, leader of the Good News International Church, is accused of instructing followers to starve themselves and their children to death with the promise of meeting Jesus. Police say at least 400 people died in his Shakahola forest commune two years ago, making it one of the deadliest cult tragedies in history.
Eleven of Mackenzie’s former followers are now in custody over the latest discoveries, while the Pastor remains behind bars facing murder and terrorism charges. Investigators are continuing the search at more than two dozen suspected mass graves.
