The National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) has rejected the Tertiary Institutions Staff Support Fund (TISSF) loan scheme introduced by the Federal Ministry of Education and TETFund, describing it as a distraction that would “enslave” members by deducting future salaries.
In a statement by its president, Ibeji Nwokoma, the union insisted its members do not need such loans, citing existing cooperatives for short-term needs.
NAAT urged the government to instead clear outstanding entitlements, including withheld salaries, arrears of allowances, wage awards, and supplementary funds for earned allowances.
The union also condemned the recent revocation of University of Abuja land by the FCT Minister, describing the action as unilateral, illegal, and harmful to the institution’s masterplan for research expansion, new academic programmes, and accommodation needs.
NAAT called on the Federal Government to redirect TISSF funds towards settling members’ arrears and urged the National Assembly’s tertiary education committees to compel the minister to reverse the land revocation in the interest of national development.
