NFF Cancels Super Eagles’ US Friendlies After World Cup Play-Off Qualification

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has cancelled the Super Eagles’ planned friendly matches against Venezuela and Colombia in the United States following the team’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup play-offs.

NFF Director of Communications, Dr Ademola Olajire, said the fixtures were automatically called off since the play-offs, scheduled for November 13 and 16 in Morocco, coincide with the proposed friendly dates.

The friendlies, arranged by FIFA-licensed agent Jairo Pachón, were set to hold in Houston and New York as part of preparations for the 2025 AFCON.

Nigeria sealed a play-off spot after a 4–0 win over Benin, powered by a Victor Osimhen hat-trick.

The Super Eagles will now face Gabon in one of the play-off semi-finals, while Cameroon meet DR Congo, with the eventual winner advancing to the inter-confederation play-offs for a final shot at the 2026 World Cup ticket.
