A coalition of Niger Delta youth groups has rejected calls for the cancellation of the pipeline surveillance contract awarded to Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL), describing such moves as reckless and economically dangerous.
In a statement signed by Roland Dade and Efe Alaye, leaders of the Coalition of Ijaw Oil and Gas Producing Kingdom Youth Councils in Delta State, the group credited Tantita with helping raise Nigeria’s crude oil output from as low as 650,000 barrels per day to nearly 1.8 million, citing its role in curbing oil theft and vandalism.
The group accused those calling for the termination of acting in the interest of oil thieves and saboteurs, warning that cancelling the contract would set back national economic progress.
They questioned the silence over previous multi-billion dollar contracts awarded to other firms without results and highlighted Tantita’s inclusive workforce and community impact projects in Warri and other parts of the Niger Delta.
They called on President Bola Tinubu to expand, not withdraw, the contract to secure ongoing gains in the oil and gas sector.
