Nigeria Confirms U.S. Visa Restrictions Still in Place Despite Diplomatic Efforts

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that visa restrictions recently imposed by the United States on certain Nigerian citizens remain in effect, despite ongoing diplomatic appeals.

Ministry spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa said yesterday that while engagements are ongoing, the policy has not yet been reversed.

The U.S. revised its visa reciprocity schedule for Nigeria, reducing the validity of business, tourism, student, exchange visitor visas to three months with single-entry access.

The Federal Government had earlier condemned the move as a disproportionate and inequitable response, warning it could harm students, professionals, and families.

While Nigeria acknowledged America’s right to determine its immigration policy, it urged Washington to reconsider the decision in the interest of mutual respect and the long-standing bilateral relationship between both nations.
