Authorities in Kano State have confirmed the arrest of eleven (11) students from Government Boarding Secondary School, Bichi, in connection with the gruesome killing of two fellow students.
The victims, Hamza Idris Tofawa and Umar Yusuf Dungurawa, were reportedly attacked with locally made metal weapons known as “Gwale-Gwale.”
Police spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, informed reporters that the arrested students are currently being interrogated to determine their individual roles in the killings. He assured that the command is committed to uncovering the truth and bringing those responsible to justice.
In his response, the Kano State Commissioner for Education, Ali Makoda, ordered a full investigation into the matter. This was conveyed by the Permanent Secretary, Bashir Mohammad, during a condolence visit to the school. He said the ministry is working closely with security agencies to prevent a recurrence.
The remains of the deceased students have been deposited at the Bichi General Hospital, where post-mortem examinations are expected to be carried out. The Government Boarding Secondary School, Bichi is now under strict monitoring, as police continue their investigation and urge the public to remain calm.
