Police Arrest Eight During #FreeNnamdiKanu Protest in Abuja, Presidency Condemns Lawyer’s Involvement

Eight people, including Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, and a relative, Fineboy Kanu, were arrested during yesterday’s #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest in Abuja.

Police spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the arrests, saying the suspects would be arraigned in court.

He dismissed reports of live bullets being fired, clarifying that officers only used teargas to disperse protesters who attempted to access restricted areas around key government institutions in the Federal Capital Territory.

The protest, led by activist Omoyele Sowore, triggered a heavy security lockdown around the Presidential Villa and other parts of Abuja, causing major traffic gridlock.

Similar tension spread to Lagos and Southeast states, where activities were largely grounded in solidarity.

Meanwhile, Presidential aides Bayo Onanuga and Sunday Dare criticised Ejimakor and Sowore, describing the protest as unethical and counterproductive.

Onanuga urged legal authorities to sanction Ejimakor, while Dare warned that justice must be pursued in courtrooms, not through street demonstrations.
