The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has announced it will hold a meeting on Saturday to assess whether its 30-day ultimatum to the Federal Government of Nigeria should be maintained or withdrawn. In a notice released today by NARD addressed to the National Officers’ Committee, Caucus Leaders, Centre Presidents, and General Secretaries, the association said the meeting will be held virtually this saturday. The union stated that the ultimatum, issued over delayed allowances and stalled policy reforms, would be reviewed in light of the government’s recent engagements and responses.
According to NARD, the meeting will determine if the government’s responses amount to “sufficient progress” that would avert further industrial action. The group warned that unresolved welfare issues and administrative bottlenecks could still trigger disruptive action across public hospitals if swift results are not produced.
