President Tinubu Appoints Speaker Abbas to Resolve Bauchi APC Crisis

President Bola Tinubu has appointed the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, to lead peace talks in the long-running crisis rocking the Bauchi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Abbas will chair a reconciliation committee that includes Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, former House Speaker Yakubu Dogara, presidential aides Senator Abdullahi Abubakar Gumel and Alhaji Ibrahim Masari, as well as Alhaji Usman Abubakar Gotomo. His Chief of Staff, Professor Jake Dan-Azumi, will serve as secretary.

Speaker Abbas informed the committee members that the dispute, dates back to the 2015 primaries needed the President’s direct intervention. He urged the team to bring integrity, fairness, and results to the assignment.

According to him, the panel plans a fact-finding mission and talks with key stakeholders, including former governors Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar and Isa Yuguda, Health Minister Mohammed Ali Pate, and several lawmakers and party leaders, in search of a lasting solution before the APC congresses.
