President Bola Tinubu has urged the creation of community-based security committees across Nigeria to strengthen peace and stability at the grassroots.
Speaking in Birnin Kebbi during the Northern Traditional Rulers Council General Assembly, represented by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, the President said the initiative would enhance dialogue, conflict resolution, and coordination between communities, traditional rulers, and security agencies.
He explained that the committees would also promote interfaith understanding and empower women and youth through education and economic inclusion to address violent extremism.
Traditional and security leaders, including the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining peace, while Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris pledged continued support for traditional institutions as vital partners in maintaining national stability.
