President Bola Tinubu hosted a Presidential reception at the new banquet hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja in honour of Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following their historic triumph at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship.
The victorious team and their officials were warmly received by the Vice President Kashim Shettima, First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, among others.
Speaking on behalf of the President, commended the team for their exceptional performance and dedication, describing them as worthy ambassadors of Nigeria.
Similarly, the Senate President Godswill Akpabio congratulated Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, for their historic win at the 2025 International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Women’s AfroBasket Championship.
In a press statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, Senator Akpabio described the victory as another proud moment for Nigerian women, noting that this is the team’s seventh AfroBasket title and fifth consecutive win.
Akpabio also praised the players and technical crew for inspiring the next generation of girls in sports, adding that the victory proves that Nigerian women are true pacesetters.
Recall that D’Tigress recently clinched their fifth consecutive AfroBasket title, after defeating Mali 78–64 in the final held at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, reaffirming their dominance in African women’s basketball.
