President Tinubu Rejects Two Bills, Cites Fiscal Risks and Legal Conflicts

President Bola Tinubu has declined assent to two recently passed bills, the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (Establishment) Bill, 2025, and the National Library Trust Fund (Amendment) Bill, 2025, warning that certain provisions could undermine fiscal discipline, breach existing laws, and set troubling precedents in public finance.

His decision was conveyed in letters read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during yesterday’s plenary.

President Tinubu faulted clauses in the Transport Technology Bill introducing new levies and unregulated borrowing, describing them as fiscally dangerous and inconsistent with national budgetary processes.

He also rejected provisions in the Library Trust Fund Amendment Bill that conflicted with federal funding and remuneration frameworks.

The President urged lawmakers to review the bills to address the identified issues.

Akpabio commended President Tinubu’s diligence in legislative review, directing relevant Senate committees to rework the proposals, a move seen as reinforcing the administration’s push for fiscal prudence and stronger economic governance.
