President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially submitted a letter to the Senate requesting the swift confirmation of his recently appointed Service Chiefs, the Senate of Nigeria was informed. In the communication, read out during plenary, Tinubu stated that the move was made in compliance with Section 18(1) of the Armed Forces Act, underscoring the urgent need to review the nation’s defence architecture and elevate leaders who can deliver optimal performance.
In the letter, Tinubu stated that the nominations were in compliance with Section 18(1) of the Armed Forces Act 2004, which governs appointments of Service Chiefs in Nigeria.
According to the letter, the nominees are: Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Army Staff, Major-General Waheedi Shaibu; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Idi Abbas; Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Kennedy Aneke; and Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General Emmanuel Undiendeye. Tinubu highlighted the nation’s current security challenges and emphasised that the appointments are part of a review of the country’s defence architecture intended to deliver optimal performance from the Armed Forces.
