President Tinubu Swears In Uzor Kalu as South East Commissioner, Extends Adeniyi’s Tenure As Customs’ Comptroller-General

President Bola Tinubu has sworn in Uzor Kalu as a commissioner of the National Assembly Service Commission representing the South East.

The swearing-in took place today at the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja, shortly before the Federal Executive Council meeting.

Kalu was confirmed by the Senate on May 20th, following the adoption of a report by the Establishment and Public Service Committee.

Similarly, President Bola Tinubu has approved a one-year extension of the tenure of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adeniyi.

In a press statement issued today by Presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, the Comptroller-General, whose tenure was originally set to expire on August 31, 2025, will now serve an additional year.

According to the statement, the extension is to allow Adeniyi consolidate ongoing reforms and complete key initiatives of the Tinubu administration. These include the modernisation of the Customs Service, the National Single Window Project, and the implementation of Nigeria’s commitments under the African Continental Free Trade Area, AfCFTA.

President Tinubu commended Adeniyi’s leadership and expressed confidence that the extension will further strengthen Customs in the areas of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.

The Custom Boss was appointed Comptroller-General in October 2023 after briefly serving in acting capacity following the exit of Hameed Ali.
