Residents of Imalefalafia in Ibadan South-West Local Government Area have taken to the streets, protesting the distortion of the original layout plan in their community.
The aggrieved residents claimed that an ongoing building project opposite a Newspapers head office violates town planning laws.
They allege that the project, on two plots of land previously occupied by a twin one-storey building with an access road in between, has blocked the link between Imalefalafia Street and College Crescent.
While they do not oppose the land’s acquisition, the residents say blocking the road is unacceptable and amounts to injustice. The residents called for urgent government intervention.
However, a site worker at the property denied blocking the road, insisting it would serve as a car park for a nearby hotel, with an exit gate for access.
The Ibadan Town Planning Authority says affected residents must submit a formal complaint before inspection or enforcement action. Also the Ministry of Lands and Housing has also warned that any action that could turn Ibadan into a jungle will not be tolerated.
