Political activist and former Lagos governorship candidate Gbadebo Rhodes‑Vivour has criticised the Oworonshoki demolition exercise carried out by the Lagos State Government, describing it as lacking compassion and serving only elite interests. He reported that developers removed homes at midnight without giving residents time to relocate, effectively deepening inequalities in a state where over 75 % of the population lives in poverty.
Rhodes-Vivour further alleged that land cleared during the exercise is being sold for profit while displaced residents receive little support, calling on the government to adopt a more humane, transparent relocation programme for families affected by redevelopment projects.
